Dear Tornado Families,
We want to make you aware of a serious safety situation that occurred this afternoon at Bradley Elementary.
A student reported that another student had stated there was a gun in his backpack and that he intended to use it during athletics. The information was immediately reported to the principal. The student was promptly removed from the other students, and the backpack was secured and searched.
No firearm or weapon was found in the backpack or in the student’s possession.
We delayed notifying families until we had completed our initial investigation and could provide accurate information. Our immediate priority was ensuring the safety of our students and staff.
We take any statement or report involving a weapon extremely seriously. Our staff responded immediately and followed district safety procedures.
We also want to recognize the student who reported what they heard. We continually remind our students that if they see something, hear something, or become aware of something that could be a safety concern, they should say something to a trusted adult immediately. Today’s situation demonstrates exactly why that message is so important.
Because this matter involves a student, we are limited in the additional information we can share. Please know that the situation is being addressed in accordance with district policies and procedures.
We appreciate the quick response of our students and staff and your continued partnership in helping us maintain a safe learning environment at Drumright Public Schools.

OSSAA has partnered with the K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal at the University of Oklahoma to develop our five-year strategic plan. This effort will guide OSSAA's priorities and initiatives moving forward, and your voice is an essential part of that process.

Attendance Matters Every Day
Tornado Families,
As we continue through the 2026–2027 school year, we want to remind our families just how important daily attendance is to your child’s success.
Every day at school matters. Each day brings new instruction, classroom discussions, hands-on activities, opportunities to ask questions, and connections with teachers and classmates. When students miss school, they miss more than an assignment. They miss valuable learning experiences that can be difficult to recreate.
We understand that there will be times when a student must miss school due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances. However, we ask families to make consistent attendance a priority and, whenever possible, schedule vacations, appointments, and other activities outside of the school day.
Even a few missed days can add up quickly throughout the year. Being at school on time, every day helps students stay caught up, build strong routines, feel connected to their school, and achieve at their highest level.
Our 2026–2027 Vacation Planning Guide includes scheduled holidays and breaks throughout the year. We encourage families to use these dates when planning trips and extended family time so students do not have to miss valuable classroom instruction.
Parents and schools are partners in attendance. Thank you for helping us establish the expectation that being at school every day matters.

Drumright Public Schools is having to switch to using ParentSquare for district, school, and classroom communication.
This transition comes as ParentSquare has acquired Remind, the communication platform our district has previously used. As part of this change, Drumright Public Schools will transition our communication directly to ParentSquare so our families can continue receiving important information while also gaining access to additional communication tools.
ParentSquare brings school communication together in one convenient place. Families will be able to receive district and school announcements, communicate with teachers and staff, complete forms and permission slips, sign up for conferences, view calendars, receive classroom updates, and more.
Messages can be received through email, text, the ParentSquare app, or online.
We encourage parents and guardians to download the free ParentSquare app for iOS or Android. You can also access ParentSquare online through ParentSquare.
Many of our teachers will continue to use both platforms until September 1st as we get our families transitioned over to ParentSquare.

We encourage families to plan ahead, allow extra travel time during the first few weeks of school, and remember that all school zones are strictly enforced at 15 MPH. Together, we can ensure a safe, positive start to the school year for every Tornado.

As we prepare to begin another exciting school year in just a few short weeks, we wanted to share our 2026–2027 Vacation Planning Guide.
This year, we are placing a strong emphasis on student attendance because we know that every day in the classroom matters. Regular attendance is one of the greatest predictors of academic success. Students who attend school consistently build stronger relationships with their teachers and classmates, stay engaged in learning, and are more likely to reach their full potential.
We understand that family vacations create lifelong memories, and we encourage those opportunities whenever possible. We simply ask that you help us by planning trips during our scheduled school holidays and breaks. By working together, we can minimize missed instructional time while still allowing families to enjoy meaningful time together.
You'll also notice that our district still has inclement weather (snow) days built into the calendar that we are always hopeful we won't have to use. If those days are not needed because of weather, they may become additional days off for students later in the second semester, providing even more opportunities for families to plan extended weekends or short trips without missing instructional time.

During the school day, Mr. Halligan will speak with our students and staff, sharing an impactful message about kindness, empathy, cyberbullying, and the importance of reaching out for help. That evening, we invite parents, grandparents, guardians, educators, and community members to join us for a special presentation created specifically for adults.
This is much more than a presentation. It is an opportunity for our entire community to come together around one common goal: protecting our children.
At Drumright Public Schools, we believe educating students is only part of our mission. Supporting families and partnering with our community are equally important. We are committed to providing resources that help every child feel safe, valued, and connected.
